Captain William Henry Smyth
Jul 17, 1833 No. 6 The Crescent, Bedford, England (map)
150mm f/17.6 refractor by Tully 1827
A bright star with a telescopic companion to the sp. A 3, orange; B 11½, dusky; with three small stars in the southern part of the field. It is on the right shoulder of Andromeda, though the old Catalogues term it "clarior in sinistrâ scapulâ," as an accepted interpretation of the contested εν τψ μεταφρενψ of Ptolemy; and it is found by a line from γ passed over β, and carried about 7° beyond the latter.― A Cycle of Celestial Objects Vol II, The Bedford Catalogue, William Henry Smyth, 1844
