Observing Notes

Harold Corwin

IC 1593 is a double star. Bigourdan found it on a poor night (he notes, "The sky being poor, the description was made in bad conditions."), and clearly thought it a marginal object ("... semi-nebulous, semi-stellar, without perceptible detail."). Nevertheless, he measured it and included it in his list of "novae" as number 367. His reduced position points directly at the double.
