For some time, I questioned the identity of this galaxy, thinking it might be too faint for Javelle to have seen. I was wrong, of course; his micrometrically measured position is within a few arcseconds of the galaxy, and his description -- aside from the position angle -- is appropriate. The 15th magnitude star that he notes as being near the galaxy is about an arcminute to the southeast.― IC Notes by Harold Corwin
