IC 1717 is probably a plate defect. Stewart calls it "eF, eS, vE at 25 deg, *N." It's possible that the notation of a stellar nucleus indicates that a star was involved, but the position is not accurate enough to suggest which one. An examination of the original plate will be necessary to sort this one out. By the way, this was the only new object that he found on the plate (Bruce plate 3974).― IC Notes by Harold Corwin
