A stunning field at low magnification, two rich clusters of white and blue-white stars, each about 15' in diameter sitting 30' apart in a rich galactic starfield, both consist of 6th to 12th magnitude stars, fully resolved, the western NGC 869 is brighter and somewhat more concentrated, the 8th magnitude rich orange star FZ Per lies in the middle ground between the clusters, another notable orange is the 8.5 magnitude RS Per at the heart of NGC 884
The pair are bright and obvious, easy visible in the finder, visible to the unaided eye as a fuzzy patch in the region between the W asterism of Cassiopeia and the bright stars of Perseus along the center of the Milky Way
