Big, bright, about 5' x 3' extended northwest to southeast, a bright center with a stellar core, a bright spiral galaxy appreciable even with a modest 8" telescope

Large, bright, a long bar 5'x2' runs north-south, at the center of the bar a bright round core about 1' in diamter, a sweep of spiral arm is visible at the north end of the bar diverging at 90°, only a gneral haze visible at the south end of the bar, a small companion NGC1097A sits just off the north end of the bar

Decent galaxy even at low altitude, extended 8:1 north-south, large bright core, a bright condensation at north extremity, halo has suggestions of spiral structure at the north and south ends, but low altitude transparency is poor tonight, need to put this one on the to-do list when further south or a better night
