IC 280 may be no more than an asterism of 4 faint stars. There are no galaxies or nebulae within 10 arcmin of Swift's position, and his description is scanty enough to make the stars a likely candidate. Also, Swift's positions for the other four objects found that night are pretty good, aside from a -1 minute error in the RA of IC 282 (which see).― IC Notes by Harold Corwin
