IC 1979 is a faint, pretty wide double star about two arcmin northwest of IC 1980. It matches Stewart's description quite well, and the position is close, too. Since it was found on the same plate as IC 1980, it is certainly not identical to the galaxy, in spite of the similar descriptions.― IC Notes by Harold Corwin
