Pale yellow, the 9th magnitude star visible 2' west is a listed companion, 110 Tau is visible 42' south-southwest and 113 Tau is visible 47' south-southeast in the rich starfield of Cr 65

Gaia EDR3 data shows this 9th magnitude companion, listed as B by WDS, to be a background star, 111 Tau has significant parallax of 68.59mas or 47.5ly distance

Captain William Henry Smyth
Dec 13, 1832    No. 6 The Crescent, Bedford, England (map)
150mm f/17.6 refractor by Tully 1827

A star with a distant comes, below the middle of the Bull's southern horn, in a poor field; and in the mid-distance between γ Orionis and β Tauri. A 6, white; and B 8½, lilac. Something seems to be the matter with the distance of 110 ♅. V., or it must have had an annual increase of nearly 0".37 per annum; but there is no reason to suppose any change in the relative position angle of these stars in half a century, the former measures being:
    ♅. Pos. 273°48' Dist. 46".70 Ep. 1782.87
S. 271°17' 61".76 1825.06
[WDS 271° 106".70 2011 ]
[111 Tau shows a high proper motion of 250.765mas/yr in RA in the Gaia DR2, directly away from HD 243294 a background star with minor PM, thus the answer to Smyth's annual increase]
