Small, faint, an even round halo surrounding an 8th magnitude star, 5' in diameter, smaller and dimmer than the nearby NGC2023 (20' west)
IC 420, 421, 423, 424, 426-428, 430-432, 434, and 435 were all discovered by Williamina Fleming on Harvard plates taken in the late 1880s. See IC 434 for more.
