White, no companion noted, L2 Pup is visible 33' north, the two stars used to be matched in magnitude, a conspicuous pair in a section of sky with few bright stars, L2 Pup is currently far fainter than most charts indicate as it has faded to between 6th and 8th magnitude in recent decades leaving L1 Pup to shine alone
