IC 2618 is a double star. In spite of Bigourdan's doubts about this object, his estimated position (he did not measure it) is good. His description reads only, "Slightly nebulous object; it will take a more powerful instrument to decide if it is really a nebula." That "more powerful instrument" turned out to be the 48-inch Schmidt telescope at Palomar Observatory.― IC Notes by Harold Corwin
