Observing Notes

Harold Corwin

IC 2759. There are two galaxies, nearly equally bright, near Bigourdan's approximate position given in the second IC. To confuse things even further, the northwestern of the pair is just 1.0 second of time west and 1.0 arcmin to the north. That is IC 2759, and is positively identified by Bigourdan's single measured offset from NGC 3651. He also notes the 13th magnitude star 2.5 arcmin away in PA = 300 degrees.

The galaxy is well-shown in Hickson's Atlas of compact groups where it is number 51e. The galaxy just over an arcminute to the southeast is Hickson 51b
