IC 3042 = NGC 4178. This was a simple oversight on Schwassmann's part -- he did not include the NGC number in his Virgo Cluster table, and Dreyer did not catch the identity with NGC 4178 (which is well-positioned by John Herschel's observation).― IC Notes by Harold Corwin
