IC 3708 is the northwestern arm of NGC 4654. Schwassmann's two positions roughly coincide with the middle of the arm, and his description "pB, cL, Af" (where "Af" means "Nebula similar to the Andromeda Nebula") matches it well enough as it might be seen on a plate taken with a six-inch lens. The position I've adopted is the mean of two 2MASS PSC positions for two knots in the arm.
Schwassmann has two other entries for NGC 4654 itself, from the same zones on the plate as IC 3708, so the IC object is clearly not a duplicate of the larger and brighter galaxy.― IC Notes by Harold Corwin
