IC 3712 is probably a defect on Schwassmann's plate. There is nothing on the DSS at his position, and there is also nothing at reasonable digit errors that match his description ("vF, pS, Af 42 deg, ??, alpha delta :"; "Af" means "Similar to the Andromeda Nebula").― IC Notes by Harold Corwin
