A curious case; this is the brightest of three galaxies in a group found on 25 July 1903. The IC position is correct, as is Javelle's reduced position. However, his RA offset carries the wrong sign. This error had no effect on the subsequent history of the object.

This has, however, not kept MCG from giving the wrong IC number to the object. IC 4610 is about 2 arcmin preceding, and it is this number that has ended up on the brighter object. This was unfortunately copied into RC3, once again showing the roots of that catalogue in MCG, via PGC. CGCG got the right number on the right galaxy.

Another curiosity of the field: IC 4611 has the wrong NPD sign in Javelle's table of offsets -- and the wrong reduced position, too.
