A bright region of nebulosity surrounds a compact cluster of stars (NGC6523), several brighter regions separated by rifts, one surrounds the cluster, another just to the west, rich Milky Way starfield fills the telescope field, M20 visible about 1° to the north, NGC6544 and NGC6553 to the south
