Narrow black spot, 10 mag. star on SE edge. This spot is at the southern end of B 138. It is comet shaped, about 4'x12'; very black and sharply defined on its south edge. This is apparently a real object"― A Photographic Atlas of Selected Regions of the Milky Way, E.E. Barnard, 1927
