An area of clumpy nebulosity overlapping or connected to NGC6995 at the very southern end of the NGC6992/NGC6995/IC1340 part of The Veil, together the three make up the Eastern Veil Nebula
Harold Corwin
IC 1340 is a knot in the Veil Nebula, probably involving a star, though it is overexposed on the POSS1, so I can't say for sure. It is indeed, as Safford supposed, connected with NGC 6995 (which see), and is probably a part of that larger object found and sketched by John Herschel.
See NGC 6960 for more on the Veil and its various pieces.― IC Notes by Harold Corwin
