Returning to the area yet again... Confirmed the starfield and the identity of HR 2899 carefully, no visible cluster at the coordinates, a few 11-12th magnitude stars, what is visible is the same general brightening noted in previous visits, best observed when panning east to west, the background is notably brighter in the area of the cluster coordinates than around HR 2899, use of a UHC filter accentuated this glow which has a notably abrupt border on the eastern side beginning about 12' west of HR 2899 while fading more gradually in the western direction
Doing a bit more research on this finds there is a notable cluster visible in IR imagery that is absent in the DSS/visual imagery, what is seen in visible is the nebula Sh 2-309 matching the structure of the general glow described above

No notable cluster at the position, perhaps a modest clump of rich galactic starfield best seen with averted vision, not a convincing cluster

15' west of HR 2899 there is nothing in particular visible in a very rich galactic starfield, perhaps some minor clumping of the starfield
