IC 2858 is not a star, though we have classified it as such for many years. It is, in fact, a compact galaxy -- though with a relatively bright red star superposed! -- included in the 2MASS XSC and in the MAPS north Galactic pole catalogue. I discovered the misclassification when I was adding the IC number to NED in August of 2005.― IC Notes by Harold Corwin
