Swift's position is OK, but his description should read "bet 2 sts 9, np and sf" instead of "* 9 sp." Am I seeing the same object that he did? If not, there is a large error in his position, and we need to keep looking for his object.
Steve Gottlieb did just that and suggests UGC 2590 just one minute of time west of Swift's nominal position. The only problem, as Steve points out, is that the star to the southwest -- HD 19736 -- is at V = 6.1 rather than the V = 8 that Swift has in his 8th list. I also noticed that Dreyer changed this to V = 9 in the IC; is this a mistake, or did Swift suggest the change? In any case, UGC 2590 is a good candidate, so I've added that to the position table with a colon. The previous candidate for IC 300 -- which is 2MASX J03141604+4224550 -- being a magnitude fainter than the UGC galaxy, collects a question mark.― IC Notes by Harold Corwin
