Observing Notes

Harold Corwin

IC 3098 = NGC 4235. There is a possibility that Schwassmann did not include the NGC number in his list because of the confusion over NGC 4223 (which see) and NGC 4241. However, I think he simply overlooked the NGC number in this particular case. His position agrees with the NGC position to within 6-7 arcsec, and his description matches that for NGC 4235 very well. So, while the two "different" objects are clearly the same, both Schwassmann and Dreyer missed the identity, and we now have an IC number on the NGC object.
