IC 3297 is a star. It is clearly seen on the print of Wolf's plate, though it is unmarked, as are all the nebulae found by Wolf on this plate. Wolf has the note "neb N in pL dif Neby". The "nebulosity" involved here is random plate grain, faint neighboring stars, and perhaps a couple of nearby galaxies as well. Wolfgang chose one of them as the IC object, but the star is easily seen on the print of the original plate, while the galaxy is lost in the plate grain.― IC Notes by Harold Corwin
