Found by Bigourdan 1.7' north-preceding NGC 5504, the discovery position is good, though was estimated only, not measured. This has not prevented CGCG and UGC from misidentifying the galaxy straight north of NGC 5504 as IC 4383. Fortunately, MCG has it right, so RC3 also got it right.
This is also Holmberg 601b from his 1937 thesis on double and multiple galaxies. Holmberg did not include IC numbers in his table, only NGC numbers. So, a few reasonably well-known IC galaxies are rarely traced back to his early work.― IC Notes by Harold Corwin
