25cm f/4.5 Newtonian, Holoholo @ 71x
Seeing: 7 Transparency: 6 Moon: 0%
Bright and obvious, a striking slash of light 10' x 1' extended northwest to southeast, a distinct dust lane along the centerline, a notably brighter central region without a nucleus, a faint star just northwest of the center

Seeing: 8 Transparency: 7 Moon: 0%
A beautiful edge-on galaxy, a slash of faint light in the eyepiece, large, elongated 8:1 northwest-southeast, a distinct dustlane, the stellar core sits just beside the dustlane, a faint star visible just off the center

Seeing: 6 Transparency: 7 Moon: 0%
Stunning! a slash of soft light across the eyepiece field, an obvious dust lane bisects the galaxy, small stellar core on the southwest side of the dust lane, a 13th magnitude star just 2' northeast of the core, 15' x 3' extending northwest-southeast

46cm f/4.5 Deep Violet
The quintessential edge-on spiral galaxy! Big! Bright! extended 10:1 southeast-northwest, dark obvious dust lane slightly off center to the north, core to the south edge of the dust lane, notable star (13mag) directly above the core to the northeast

94mm f/18 Tully Achromat
Long streak with parallel patch on f edge. 'Extraordinary phenomenon.' E of Rosse, about 15', nucleus projecting into dark lane, sky p nebula darker than elsewhere. Very faint 3-7/10 in.; well seen 9-in spec. Lick photo. centre cut in two by dark (absorption?) band, and there is a central star.― Celestial Objects for Common Telescopes, T. W. Webb, 1917
