46cm f/4.5 Newtonian, Deep Violet @ 175x
Seeing: 7 Transparency: 7 Moon: 0%

Bright, elongated 4'x2' northwest-southeast, a bright central region makes this an easily spotted object that Messier may have found (M102?)

46cm f/4.5 Deep Violet

The most probable identity for M102, bright, compact, very obvious against the stellar background even at low power, modestly elongated NW-SE, core is not apparent, just a general brightening to the center
