Small, 5' across, a distinct cluster in a rich starfield, fully resolved, a 7th magnitude star on the south margin, northermost in a line of three clusters with NGC663 30' southeast and NGC659 further south

90mm F/12 APO Violet Haze

A small patch of faint stars beside a much brighter 7.3 mag. star, somewhat resolved, the brighter members embedded in a nebulous glow, NGC663 visible 40' south

46cm f/4.5 Deep Violet

Bright, rich, concentrated, well resolved, many dim members among the spray of bright members, two much brighter stars on the south side, thick galactic star field

150mm f/17.6 refractor by Tully 1827

A cluster of stars from the 10th to the 14th magnitudes, just below the Lady's right knee; and nearly in mid-distance between δ and ε. It is somewhat of a triangular shape, and about 2' or 3' in diameter; the hypotenuse is well defined by the three brightest stars in the field, of which the central one is orange-coloured, and of the 8½ magnitude [HD 10494 mag 7.3], perhaps Sir William Herschel's "ruddy": from analogy it is between us and the components of the cluster. This object was discovered and registered in November, 1787.
