IC 3917 is a star, verified on a print of the original plate, probably with a plate defect involved. This number has occasionally been mistakenly assigned to the galaxy IC 3918 (e.g. RC1), but Wolf's position corresponds to the star he has marked on his plate. See IC 3636 for more about the discovery plate.― IC Notes by Harold Corwin
