Observing Notes

Harold Corwin

IC 3161 and IC 3162 are two stars, about 30 arcsec apart, which Schwassmann describes identically: "eF, vS, [perhaps] *". In a note attached to both, he goes on "I wonder if these are nebulous stars" (my free translation of his comment "in einer gemeinsamen Nebelhulle liegend"). His positions for both are very close to the modern positions, and the identities are sure.
