Σ 761 is a lovely trio of stars 8' northwest of σ Ori, Struve assembled this with the 7.7th magnitude HD 294271 as the primary and the delicate 8th magnitude 8" pair HD 294272 as members B and C. The σ Ori group is in a rich region 1° south of Alnitak, the entire area spectacular in the eyepiece.

All members of Σ 761 are probably members of the Sigma Orionis Association sharing the same parallax and low proper motion. The σ Ori group is in a rich region 1° south of Alnitak, the entire area spectacular in the eyepiece.
